ここで使われている do は「良いことである」とか「役に立つ」という意味で、it does not do は「何の役にも立たない」とか「良いことではない」ということです。
何が良いことではないかというと、「夢にいつまでも耽っていること (to dwell on dreams)」、そして「生きることを忘れてしまうこと (to forget to live)」です。
きっと、ハリーは何度も何度も暇さえあれば鏡を覗きに来ていたのでしょう。
